ITMA 2011 unveils new chapter on fibres and yarns
Expanded product index to provide one-stop sourcing solution to global manufacturers
18 October 2010 – As part of its ongoing efforts to serve the changing needs of global players, ITMA will feature a brand new chapter on fibres and yarns for its 2011 edition which will be held from 22 to 29 September at Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía, Spain.
Covered in the chapter are natural, man-made and technical fibres, and natural, synthetic and technical yarns. With the inclusion of this new profile, ITMA 2011 exhibits will now be classified into 18 separate chapters, including spinning, winding and texturing, nonwovens production, weaving, knitting and hosiery, garment making and textile processing, embroidery and braiding, dyeing, printing and finishing, dyestuffs and chemicals, testing, recycling, logistics, software and research and education.
“The expanded product index will be a boon to textile and garment makers and manufacturers and professionals from other industrial sectors” said ITMA show owner, CEMATEX, the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers.
Mr Stephen R. Combes, President of CEMATEX, stated: “With the business environment becoming more competitive and complex, buyers now prefer platforms that offer innovative, one-stop solutions for their total sourcing requirements. Many of our visitors are leading manufacturers who are constantly exploring options to improve their productivity and to respond more quickly to customer demands. Some of their solutions include integrating the upstream and downstream processes, as well as adding value to their product and service offers”.
“Similarly, as an established industry exhibition, ITMA is also constantly looking at ways to be more customer-focused. In fact, over the last few months, we have received several requests from leading fibre manufacturers as well as from visitors to our shows asking us to include fibres and yarns in our product index.
According to the Oerlikon Textile Report ‘The Fiber Year’, global fibre consumption rose 4.2 per cent to 70.5 million tonnes in 2009. Man-made fibres increased 4 per cent to 44.1 million tonnes and natural fibres advanced 4.5 per cent to 26.4 million tonnes.
The Japan Chemical Fibres Association (JCFA) predicts that the world market demand for fibres will keep increasing. Its recently released 2009 market survey revealed that chemical fibre consumption is expected to reach 53.95 million tonnes by 2015. This represents a 24 per cent increase from the output level of 43.51 million tonnes registered in 2008.
Addressing this upward trend in global fibre consumption, we feel that it is very apt, as part of our 60th anniversary, to include this new chapter”.
Positive response received for 2011 showcase
As the global economy continues to stabilise, response from companies signing up to ITMA 2011 has been more and more positive. To-date, some 1,000 applications have been received from leading machinery manufacturers from 36 economies, and the show is on target to reach 100,000 square metres.
“ITMA is a recognised brand and we are delighted that the industry continues to support our showcase of innovative textile making technology. What is even more heartening is that over 15 per cent of the exhibitors have applied for a bigger booth space compared with their 2007 participation. This is a really positive sign that industry players are optimistic about the future,” added Mr Combes.
Currently, exhibitors from the CEMATEX countries in Europe make up the biggest country group, booking some 80 per cent of the space. The top five participating countries in terms of space applications are Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain and Belgium. For the rest of the world, Indian manufacturers form the largest contingent, followed by Japan, Turkey, Taiwan and China.
Sector-wise, finishing machinery forms the largest proportion, constituting almost 30 per cent of the exhibit space. This is followed by spinning, weaving and knitting, each contributing about 15 per cent.
More associations lend their support to ITMA 2011
Industry associations from textile and garment makers are also throwing their support behind ITMA 2011. To-date, more than 85 associations from over 50 countries have confirmed their support for the exhibition.
Among the latest to sign up are three federations:
• Arab Federation for Textile Industries (AFTI), the sectoral business organisation affiliated with the League of Arab States Council of Arab Economic Unity,
• ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries (AFTEX), a grouping of textile and garment associations of 10 Southeast Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam
• African Cotton & Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF), a regional trade body formed by the cotton, textile and apparel sectors from across sub-Saharan Africa. ACTIF currently includes members from 17 countries: Botswana, Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia & Zimbabwe.
In celebration of ITMA’s 60th anniversary, several complementary activities have been organised with partners. They include the World Textile Summit organised by CEMATEX, ITMF, MP International and World Textile Information Network, and Advanced Textiles forum by the Industrial Fabrics Association International.
ITMA 2011 is organised by MP International. For more information on the exhibition, complementary events or to apply for space, please visit www.itma.com.
